James Sullivan Memorial Fund

Background:

Mr. James Sullivan was most influential in the evolution of the Nor-Gwyn Baseball Program as well as the Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball League in which Nor-Gwyn and neighboring community programs participate.  His dedication & contributions were recognized in 1999 when Jim Sullivan was honored as part of the inaugural group of inductees to the Nor-Gwyn Hall of Fame. One of the league divisions of the Bux-Mont Senior Connie Mack Baseball Program respectfully bears his name.  In 2003, when we lost Mr. Sullivan, his family designated "gifts in lieu of flowers" in his name to Nor-Gwyn Baseball.  The Nor-Gwyn Board of Directors placed these funds in a separate account to be used to assist Baseball & Softball players facing registration hardship situations.

Player registration hardships are not widely publicized out of respect for the privacy of those involved.  However, from time to time, Nor-Gwyn encounters families who face temporary financial challenges which make it difficult to register their child to play baseball or softball.  When these situations are brought to a league commissioner's attention, they seek the Nor-Gwyn Board of Directors' approval to exercise its hardship practice and permit the players to register at a reduced fee.

In 2009, the parents of two Nor-Gwyn Little League teams asked how they might donate funds to Nor-Gwyn in honor and in appreciation of their outstanding team managers that year.  After reviewing the options, these parents found replenishment of the Jim Sullivan Memorial Fund a most worthy cause.  It permitted them to honor their team managers much the same as the Sullivan family honored their loved one.  Since that time, there have been several teams whose managers have been honored in this way.  The teams and the managers honored are listed below.
