Nor-Gwyn Baseball & Softball Code of Conduct

Nor-Gwyn Baseball and Softball Parent and Coach Code of Conduct

This Parent (or Guardian) and Coach Code of Conduct is intended to supplement the Nor-Gwyn Baseball, Inc., By-Laws Article XVII Additional Administrative Matters, Section C – Code of Conduct. As an organization, Nor-Gwyn strives to provide the best baseball and softball programs for its participating players, parents, coaches, and volunteers. Fun, Fundamentals, and Fair play are the keys to our success. However, in order to abide by these keys the organization asks that all members adhere to the following guidelines.

As a Nor-Gwyn Parent or Coach, or other Family Member, I:

·         Will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for the players not the parents.
·         Understand that I am a role model, and I am accountable for my actions and must lead by example on the field and in the community. A team and organization’s reputation is built on courtesy, sportsmanship like behavior and the opportunity for all players to participate regardless of playing ability.
·         Will emphasize skill development during practices and how they benefit my child. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the normal spring/fall recreational age groups [includes Quickball, Youth Baseball, and Softball (Pony/Rookie, Minors, and Majors) Programs] exclusive of playoffs and tournament/travel team formats. Will place the emotional and physical well-being of all participants ahead of the desire to win.
·         Will communicate with my player’s coaches about my players’ availability and will be respectful by being on time to drop off and/or pick up players for all practices and games.
·         Will give positive verbal support to players and coaches to set a positive example.
·         Understand that umpires are human, and we will treat them with the utmost respect. Will not verbally berate, threaten, or physically harm the umpires.
·         Will refrain from verbally in person or through the use of social media attempt to criticize or confront players, coaches, volunteers, or other spectators.
·         Will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others and the coach will respond accordingly.
·         Will refrain from any bias (for instance religion, national origin, national language, gender, sexual identity, political or physical & mental form of discrimination, to name a few) against any participants.
·         Understand the use of alcohol, illegal substances, and nicotine products while on Nor-Gwyn premises (North Penn School District Policy) is prohibited.
·         Understand that it is a privilege to participate as a parent or coach and as a member of Nor-Gwyn, that privilege can be suspended, or taken away, if my behavior is found to be inconsistent with this Code of Conduct.
·         Will use the 24-hour rule after a game or practice when I am unhappy with an issue regarding my child or team that requires a discussion with a coach and/or league representative.

The first violation of the above-mentioned guidelines may result in a warning and discussion between the parent or coach along with the appropriate Nor-Gwyn Representative.

A second violation of the above-mentioned guidelines may result in a second warning, possible suspension and discussion with the parent or coach with the Nor-Gwyn Baseball & Softball President and the appropriate Nor-Gwyn Representative. Review of, agreement to, and signature authorization to this Code of Conduct may be requested at this time.

A third violation may result in temporary forfeiture of participation in Nor-Gwyn related activities and potential expulsion from the organization pending a ruling by the Nor-Gwyn Board of Directors.

Any violation that is deemed excessively egregious could be elevated to the Nor-Gwyn Baseball and Softball President and Board of Directors. Appropriate action would be based on ruling by the Nor-Gwyn Board of Directors.
